The secret to getting admitted into University of Ghana, Legon is understanding your grades and knowing the exact programme it qualifies for. A lot of prospective applicants do not gain admission just because they did not put enough time into researching the right programme fit for the grades they have.
There is a general WASSCE entry requirement for applying to the university in Ghana, however, University of Ghana has its own specific requirement based on each programme of study.
In this post, I will take you through exactly what you need to do to land your Legon admission with an average WASSCE result.
Understanding your WASSCE grades will help you in your university application process. It is important you understand exactly what each grade means and the points it carries. This will help you in calculating your total grade point which will be used to check if you meet the cut-off point for the programme you want to study.
A1 = 1
B2 = 2
B3 = 3
C4 = 4
C5 = 5
C6 = 6
D7 = 7
E8 = 8
F9 = 9
Check your WASSCE grades and calculate the total grade point.
For example; Maths A1, English C4, Science C5, GKA A1, Graphic Design B2, and Ceramics C5, give you a total grade point of 18.
You can calculate your WASSCE aggregate by adding the grades obtained from three core subjects (English, Maths, Science/Social) and any three electives.
Below is the general entry requirement for applying to University of Ghana with WASSCE;
As stated earlier in this post, University of Ghana has instituted various cut-off points for all the programmes it offers. This means you may meet the general entry requirement but without meeting the cut-off point for the specific programme you want to offer, you will not get admission.
To confirm you meet a particular programme’s cut-off point, you first have to check if your total aggregate is less or equal to the specific cut-off point. For example, the cut-off point for BSc. Nursing in Legon is 9, this means you will not qualify if you get 10.
Choosing programmes you qualify for is the best way to ensure successful admission. This can be hectic, you have to go through the various programmes and their cut-off points individually to check, some of these programmes also require certain subjects to qualify.
