A thirteen-member committee has been formed to develop guidelines to assist in the integration of Ghanaian students from Ukraine into Ghanaian universities to continue their education.
Dr Nsiah Asare, Special Advisor to the President on Health Issues, chairs the committee, which has four weeks to submit its report to Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The Students Representative Council (SRC), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the Medical and Dental Council, the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Vice Chancellors of Medical Schools, and the Rector of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, among others, are all represented on the committee.

Dr. Adutwum urged the team to work hard to ensure that the students were placed in schools where they would fit well to continue their education, speaking at a stakeholder’s consultative meeting in Accra to address displaced Ghanaian Medical students from Ukraine.
The purpose of the meeting was to provide an update and explanation of the critical issue at hand, as well as to discuss plans for the immediate integration of Ghanaian medical students from Ukraine into the Ghana Medical Education System.
The Minister urged the committee to be creative in their findings and to consider creating a pathway for students who may be weak in certain areas of their studies to cope with the Ghanaian educational system.
The Minister of Education urged the committee to work diligently to ensure that all students are placed so that they could continue their education.
Dr. Adutwum, the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe in the Ashanti region, assured that everything was being done to ensure that the Government’s goal of achieving a 40% Gross Tertiary Enrolment Ratio (GTER) by 2030 was met.
On behalf of the committee, Dr Nsiah Asare pledged to work tirelessly to ensure that the students were placed in appropriate institutions and that the report was submitted on time.
When the Russia/Ukraine war broke out, 132 Ghanaian students were rescued from Ukraine, with about 28 of them on government scholarships.
